The Insuri

The Earthstone and Elementals

The Insuri are humans with a special affinity to one of the four Stones of Creation, Earth, Water, Fire, and Air. Each Insuri has certain innate powers and supernatural abilities relating to their sign. Most humans have at least some Insuri blood and thus often have talents associated with one of the lines.

Full Insuri come into their marks between age sixteen-eighteen. It is then that the bloodline that will manifest is revealed as the mark appears behind the right ear. The marks are about the size of a dime and resemble their element: fire is a reddish flame, air is a white swirl, earth is a green leaf and water is a blue drop. For Insuri teens, their adolescence is complicated with the bloodlines of various Insuri elements shuffling through the child, searching for the one that fits best. It is not always that of one of their parents.

Fire Mark

FIRE

Gilinti have an affinity for light and fire. They can control heat, flame, and light. Many Gilinti are cooks, chefs, artisans who create pottery and jewelry, or work in controlled laboratory or research settings, often in cold regions since they can control ambient and inner body temperature. They tend to focus on family, hearth and home, and are unusually creative cooks, artists or writers.

Jerl also control fire, although their talents lay in fast, intense heat. They can control lightning strikes, and often work with occupations that include welding, working with metals or glass, in general construction or as artisans, mechanical engineering, mechanics, and in protective occupations such as law enforcement, military. They like to work with their hands and are immune to the effect of their self-generated heat.

Water Mark

WATER

Alondin work with the moisture in the air and clouds to draw water to earth, controlling rainfall, including the timing and intensity of rain, snow, fog and mist. They tend to live in moderate and tropical regions. They are generally drawn to positions that require organization and meticulous attention to detail such as accounting, business management, politics, editing, party/event planners, hospitality occupations such as hotels, resorts, and spa/gyms, and politics.

Vai can control, move, and divert the waters of the earth such as streams, rivers, lakes, oceans. They can create or control waves, waterspouts and other water-based phenomena. They tend to live near water sources and are drawn to firefighting and other occupations involving water, including anything to do with boats, fishing, cruises, piers, shipping, plumbing, etc. In their spare time, they often pursue watersports such as diving, surfing, swimming, skiing, etc.

Earth Mark

EARTH

Bordaloo have a special relationship with the soft earth. They can control and balance nutrients and soil types and are especially adept at growing anything, anywhere. They are drawn to farming, ranching, forestry, and nursery occupations, especially in valleys, foothills or flat areas. In general, they have good relationships with animals, enjoy hiking, gardening, horseback riding, outdoor leisure pursuits.

Cremulas can control, move, and break up the hard earth, rock, stones, especially. They can feel the density of rock and stone beneath the surface. They tend to professions such as earthmoving, construction, highway and road construction, demolition, etc. Many are gemologists and jewelers. Leisure often includes lapidary, rock hunting, climbing, exploring, and hiking, especially in mountainous areas.

Air Mark

AIR

Holum control the air, including controlling the wind and general air quality. They can either project or remove air from enclosed spaces. They can project their voices over long distances, especially if the air is clear. They prefer professions that allow interaction with people as they are easily bored and distracted. Many choose occupations in retail, sales, or vocations that offer travel. They tend to enjoy cooking, puzzles, mysteries, craft projects, and are excellent copyists.

Wraith can become one with the air, turning into a ghost-like ethereal shadow that can flow through any solid (except the Stones of Creation), and can move quickly in their wraith from. They can project their voice but only through line of sight. They tend to be restless and prefer physical labor or something that keeps their hands busy while in human form. Preferred professions include architecture, design, construction, woodworking, ranching, working with animals.

FALE

Fale are long-lived creatures, sometimes called Guardians of Humanity, whose bloodlines date back to the beginning of mankind. Currently, they resemble house cats who attach themselves to someone, usually an Insuri, who will be in need of their help, usually as a protector sometime in the future. While they exhibit many of the outward appearances and characteristics of cats, they have many special abilities, including hearing the thoughts of and speaking to the mind of their companion, travelling/making distances shorter, healing and soothing abilities, and shape-shifting into a creature of their choice when circumstances are dire for their companion. They tend to congregate in Insuri settlements, although there are Fale all over the world. Because they are so long lived, a pair will only breed when their own tenure on this plane of existence is drawing to a close, usually after two or three centuries. The mated pair will have a litter of two. The parents raise the kits together in the wilderness for about ten years before they are ready to enter the world and their position as guardians. See page MEET THE FALE to learn about the Fale of Whispering Mountain.

THE OTHER

The Other, sometimes known as Trickster, were placed on Earth with the Stones as catalysts. The Stones, because of their natures, tend to work slowly, so the Other roams the world and guides the work, keeping it on track and moving forward. It is currently in human form in Whispering Mountain, having been drawn there by changes in the Earthstone’s vibrations and unusual behavior.

STONES OF CREATION

The four elemental Stones of Creation were placed upon the Earth when it was young to encourage and assist life in all its forms. Each stone’s influence reaches all over the globe, but a concentration of full Insuri tend to gather in the area that houses a Stone and create a protected environment for themselves, away from curious eyes of humans. It is said that once their power is diminished and fully absorbed into the Earth, their work is done and they can transmogrify into whatever form they choose.

The Firestone is located in the Philippines. The Airstone resides in what is now Sweden and the Waterstone is located along the western Australian coast.

The Earthstone currently resides in a mountain cave in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States.
