How I came to write this book:
My daughter enjoyed the Twilight Books and got me reading them, too. While they were diverting and interesting, something about them bothered me. There was no reason NOT to want to be a Vampire, once you got past the whole drinking blood thing. You could even go out into the sun! This go me thinking about all the myths and stories written and passed down through the ages. How many different permutations of Vampires were there?
The research was fascinating. There are Vampire myths in nearly every culture. Many are preternaturally attractive, most are monsters who live off the life blood (or life-force) of humans, and they are almost always depicted as immortal.
So, what if Vampires were real? What would their culture be like? How would they manage to survive and stay hidden from humanity? And what would they do with all the time in the world? Wouldn’t they get bored eventually?
A few blog essays later, I decided to flesh it out and write this Guidebook. It’s as real as I can make it. Heck, I might even be close to reality… who knows? The next time I run into a Netherbeing, I will ask.
